noahandpaisley:

Read…

I was going through a stack of children’s books my friend Tina passed on to me and was so excited to discover this translated version of Leo Lionni’s “Swimmy”.  She taught Korean at a Dual Language school, so there were other good finds, but this was my favorite.  The kids humored me and let me attempt reading it to them in Korean (I’m usually okay after some practice), but then quickly took over.  I don’t blame them.

This book is so simple, yet has many lessons and big themes (death, overcoming obstacles, working together).  Plus, the dreamy watercolor illustrations are breathtaking.  I could happily read this one over and over again…even in Korean.

* It’s especially cute when your toddler is making fish lip kissy faces as she turns each page.

Portrait/Logo

Our children are gorgeously diverse and they love a good read.

Here, I feature authors and illustrators that are building a new diverse canon, book by dazzling book.

Some of my favorite themes include: children of color, LGBTQ, adoption, special needs, math, and science. There is also a mishmash of miscellany and reblogged tidbits that strike my fancy as they float by.

-Kate
