Real Kids. Good Books.

Our children are gorgeously diverse and they love a good read. At the heart of Real Kids/ Good Books are authors and illustrators who are building a new diverse canon, book by dazzling book.

Themes include: children of color, LGBTQ, adoption, special needs, math, science and writing. And of course there is also a mishmash of miscellany and reblogged tidbits that strike my fancy as they float by.

Thanks for stopping by.

United Tweets of America by Hudson Talbott (G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2008).
As a bird nerd myself, I couldn’t resist adding this book to the ol’ blog. Each state bird has its own page and the little asides that the birds say are quite cute. The feisty cardinal makes many appearances and even provides a faint plot line for the book. Not the most electrifying of books, but kids have to start their bird nerding at some point in life, right? Here’s a fun way to start them on the path.
