Our children are gorgeously diverse and they love a good read. At the heart of Real Kids/ Good Books are authors and illustrators who are building a new diverse canon, book by dazzling book.

Themes include: children of color, LGBTQ, adoption, special needs, math, science and writing. And of course there is also a mishmash of miscellany and reblogged tidbits that strike my fancy as they float by.

Thanks for stopping by.

I Live in Tokyo (2001) by Mari Takabayashi.
Our hearts go out to all the people who have suffered and are still suffering from the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters in Japan. If your kids have seen the news or heard about these terrible disasters, but do not really have a clear picture of what it might be like to live in Japan, then this book will help. Mari Takabayashi’s illustrations have all the right details of big events in every month for kids in Japan. From New Year’s to the start of school in April to summer festivals, it’s all there.
